Rooted From the Beginning

A Calling That Started Early

Born and raised in Chapin, South Carolina, Brinton once believed she would become an environmental lawyer. But the pull to have her hands in the dirt proved stronger than any courtroom. Near the end of college, she began working at the Student Organic Farm at Clemson University — and something shifted.

Remembering What Was Always There

While working on Clemson’s campus farm, the rhythm of seasonal growing came rushing back. As a child, Brinton grew up helping her mother — with support from her father — run Boone Fox Herb Farm.

When her farm manager asked her to seed kale in the greenhouse, the knowledge returned instantly. It wasn’t something she had to learn — it was something she already knew. A skill quietly passed down through years spent in her mother’s greenhouse. A connection she might have missed if she hadn’t listened to the call to return to the soil.

From Clemson to Full Sun Farm

After Clemson, Brinton moved to Asheville, North Carolina, to work at Full Sun Farm. There, she experienced a thriving CSA program supplying seasonal produce to both local families and restaurants.

Full Sun also offered a flower CSA and farmers market bouquets — and that’s where the seed was planted. Brinton saw firsthand the role flowers played in a farm’s ecosystem, and more importantly, the joy they brought to customers week after week.

Building Experience at Home

When Brinton returned to South Carolina, she remained committed to making a life in agriculture. She worked with a Farm to School program in the district she once attended before discovering an opportunity at City Roots.

City Roots was searching for a Cut Flower Manager. Brinton took a chance — and for two seasons she ran their CSA and farmers market bouquet program, deepening her understanding of both flowers and community.

The Beginning of Boone Fox Farm

When an opportunity arose through Clemson Extension’s Incubator Program at the Sandhills Research Center, Brinton trusted her instincts once again.

With knowledge gathered from every farm she worked on and a lifelong love of growing instilled by her mother, she set out to bring Boone Fox Farm to life.

Growing in Rosewood

In the fall of 2023, Boone Fox Farm moved its operations to the Rosewood neighborhood in downtown Columbia — the very property that once housed City Roots Organic Farm.

The move marked both a homecoming and an expansion. What began as half an acre of annual cut flowers has grown into 1.5 acres of annual and perennial flowers and foliage — rooted in community and growing with the seasons.

Meet the Farmers

Boone Fox Farm is led by Brinton Fox and supported by Henry Thomas, a team rooted in a shared love of growing and community. Raised on her family’s organic herb farm, Brinton brings years of hands-on experience from Clemson’s Student Organic Farm, Full Sun Farm in Asheville, and City Roots in Columbia.

Henry works alongside her to keep the daily rhythm of the farm moving — from field work to market days — helping turn each season’s harvest into something meaningful. Together, they grow flowers with intention, care, and a deep connection to the land.

How we grow

We use regenerative methods for soil health here at Boone Fox Farm. We cover crop after every cash crop is harvested to help restore the soil we grow in.

Our flowers are not sprayed with synthetic chemicals, and we implement strategic techinques for minimizing the pest and disease pressures that come with growing flowers in the hot and humid climate we have here in the Midlands of SC.

Why seasonality matters for a farm in the South

One way we are able to minimize how we treat for pests and disease at the farm is by allowing nature to guide us in what to grow and when to grow it. We keep
